Over 5,000 residents of the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency are expected to benefit from the 2025 edition of the Free Eye Testing, Glasses, and Surgery Program initiated by Rep. Akin Alabi. The program, which has consistently delivered free eye care to constituents over the years, will run from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1, 2025.
This year’s edition will hold across five locations within the constituency to ensure that participants can easily access the services without the burden of long-distance travel.
Rep. Akin Alabi, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, confirmed the start date while addressing journalists in Ibadan. He reiterated his commitment to providing quality healthcare to his constituents, particularly those at the grassroots level.
“We will kick off this year’s edition of our free eye testing, glasses, and surgery program on the 28th of this month. Our target for 2025 is to reach 5,000 people,” he stated.
The program, which has become a flagship healthcare outreach in the constituency, offers free medical eye screenings, prescription glasses, and surgical treatment for eye conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. It is especially focused on elderly citizens and residents who cannot afford specialized eye care.
According to the official schedule, the outreach will commence by 9:00 AM each day at the following venues:
- Monday, July 28: Seventh Day Adventist Campsite, Erunmu Community
- Tuesday, July 29: Ajiwogbo Town Hall, Ajiwogbo Community
- Wednesday, July 30: Egbeda APC party office, opposite Toun Hospital, Iwo Road
- Thursday, July 31: Open space, opposite Ajao Road, Sawia Olounshogo
- Friday, August 1: Chief Diran Alabi’s House, Brewery
Reacting to the development, Hon. Adebowale Amoo JP, the Director-General of the Akin Alabi Campaign Organization, praised the lawmaker’s consistent efforts to prioritize healthcare in his constituency.
“This is not the first time Hon. Akin Alabi has led such a program. It has become a tradition in Egbeda and Ona-Ara. Year after year, he has been restoring sight and bringing hope to those who thought they would live with eye problems forever,” Amoo said.
He added that the accessibility of the program is one of its most impressive features, noting that all services—testing, glasses, and surgeries—are completely free of charge.
Since its inception, the Akin Alabi Free Eye Testing, Glasses, and Surgery Program has helped thousands of people regain their sight and improve their quality of life. It has grown to become one of the most impactful grassroots healthcare programs in Oyo State.
Alabi emphasized that this year’s edition is part of his continued mission to ensure that no resident is left behind when it comes to essential health services.
“This program has brought hope to many, and we are determined to do even more this year. By the grace of God, we will begin on the 28th of this month and aim to reach 5,000 people in this edition,” he said.
The program remains open to all, regardless of age or political affiliation, and continues to serve as a testament to the power of compassionate leadership and responsive representation.
