4YEARS AFTER 50YEARS LEASEHOLD: Inside Agbowo Shopping Complex Snail Speed Remodeling
An ongoing renovation and remodeling of the new Agbowo Shopping Complex, Ibadan has commenced. The  mandate is to convert the moribund structure into a premium commercial real estate and a 4-star hotel.
On Tuesday morning, workers and Engineers were seen at the complex trying to put things in place by clearing the debris and doing some other field works.
Speaking with the Site Engineer,Who prefers to be known as Mr Femi,he said Oyo State government has awoken the project which has started  and it won’t stop until it’s completed.
As at the time of filling this report, the Agboowo shopping complex Project Manager was not available for an interview.
Engr Femi added that the time of completion of the project cannot be ascertained yet as they’re trying to schedule their activities with the program of works which is yet to be released.
It would be recall that on November 11,2023, Governor Seyi Makinde stated, while unveiling the billboard commemorating the UI @ 75 anniversary on the University Campus that works will soon begin on Agbowo Shopping Complex, stating that the project remains important to his administration as it is part of its agenda to resuscitate the state’s assets.
Governor Makinde had since September 23, 2020, leased the shopping complex to Whitestone Global Limited for 50 years, with a promise to complete the renovation before May 2023.
Recall also that the governor said the remodeling of the structure, which many administrations had tried unsuccessfully to renovate, would see the investor injecting N4.9 billion to convert the moribund structure into premium commercial real estate and a four-star hotel.
Ibadancity Announcer gather reports from shop owners in the area and one of the labourers on the site who prefers to remain anonymous that two of the workers working upstairs had an accident yesterday while working in which one of them died on the spot after hitting his head on the ground while the other worker was rushed to the hospital.
Commenting on the incident,Engr Femi said the accident happened due to the workers nonchalant attitude towards work safety .
He added ,”they were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan but unfortunately there were no more bed space,so we took them to a private hospital,Skyline Specialist Hospital at Iwo road”.
He further said that one of them is responding to treatment while the other is being attended to by a surgeon and prayed that such never happen again.
