WIPED OUT: How Explosion Rocked Ibadan-Lives lost, Many Injured, Properties Destroyed

An explosion on Tuesday evening rocked Bodija, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, leaving residents in panic. The incident described by many as avoidable night of horror happened at about 7:44pm on Tuesday at  Dejo Oyelese Close off Adeyi Avenue Old Bodija, Ibadan.

Reacting to the incident, the state Governor, Seyi Makinde said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion is a result of explosive devices stored by Illegal miners

The former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Iyiola Oladokun who is also a resident in the area recounted “we were home watching the football match around some minutes to eight when we suddenly heard the blast, loudly and there was something like a lightning and window glasses shattered around the houses. This is very devastating but I thank God because myself and my wife came out unhurt”.

The Commissioner for health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi said in an interview with our correspondence, “Emergency preparedness has been in place since yesterday, some victims were taken to different hospitals and are being taken care of. Some were discharged yesterday because they had minor Injuries, those that were badly injured are are the only ones still on admission”.

She debunked the rumour of victims needing blood transfusion. She said, “We have been moving round the hospitals and none of the victims needs blood transfusion”.

An anonymous woman at the scene of the incident who had a chat with our reporter, recounted how God saved her daughter who was one of the students living at the boarding facility of a secondary school in Ibadan. She was full of appreciation to God for saving her daughter, she told us” God saved my child, she is a student of All Soul’s school and their boarding house is here at the blast scene.

She added, none of the student died but they were injured and they are being taken care of in the hospitals.
