In continuation of her 60th birthday celebration,many prominent women, students and well wishers in Oyo State and beyond gathered at the Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria (IACD) Library and Resource Centre, Magazine Road, Jericho, Ibadan, venue of the unveiling of book authored by the immediate first lady and wife of the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi.
The book unveiling, which was held on June 18th, 2019, witnessed the presence of Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Mrs. Funmi Roberts as Chairperson, Dr. Omolara Smith, who is a Director at Molly Specialist Hospital and Mrs. Dolapo Oyedipe of Access to Medical Care Foundation as discussants and students from selected secondary schools across the state.
Others at the event, who also read excerpts from the book on the author’s early life, life as a woman, life as the wife of a politician and evolved for society are Mrs. Abisola Kola-Daisi, who is one of the daughters of the author, immediate past Commissioner of Women Mrs. Atinuke Oshunkoya, Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi, as well as Mrs. Jumoke Caxton- Martins.
In her postscripts and interaction, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi expressed that since had she clocked 60 years, she has been looking for way to give back to the people by sharing experience for them to tap from and use to become better persons irrespective of their background.
The former First Lady urged the young girls to be focused and courageous enough to achieve their desired aims and objectives, while clarifying that she was a self made woman who only focused on how and way to be relevant in the society.
Mrs. Ajimobi challenged them not to lose focus irrespective of situations and circumstances, adding that there is always a light at the end of the turned.
She implored them to take the clue from her life experience, life of someone who got to know her father when she was six years of old.
Speaking about her family, Mrs. Ajimobi encouraged women to swallow their pride in order to have a successful home, citing when her husband wanted to join politics in 2002 as a case study.
Mrs. Florence said that when her husband called her that she wanted to venture into politics, she asked him that the decision should be a collective decision but his husband replied that he was the head of the family and that his decision is the final.
She described herself as a daughter of a destiny, who irrespective of her background, mixed parentage and marriage to a man from polygamous family, still determined to be a successful person in life.
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, while thanking God, stated that the book is way of sharing her experience to the people, particularly the young girls to learn from and chart a new way forward in their life.
She promised to continue to promote and champion the course of the children in the society and encourage them to become the persons of their dream.
While delivering her welcome address, the Executive Director of Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria, Mrs. Adefemi Bucknor-Arigbede disclosed that the IACD Nigeria is an initiative with mission to expose the Nigerian populace to the best practices in teaching and writing in the world.
She disclosed that the book, ‘My Life Like A Rainbow’ entails the life experience of Mrs. Ajimobi, covered her eight years as first lady of Oyo State, 39 years of her marriage and a life spanning of over 60 years.
“In the book, she unambiguously shares her experiences as a child of mixed parentage, wife to a man that started from a modest beginning who later became the governor of Oyo State, mother to five lovely children, grandmother, business woman, student, mentee, philanthropist and recently the former first lady of Oyo State.”
