The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Ibadan, has inducted 88 graduates at a ceremony held at the Alumni Hall of the institution.
The event marked a significant milestone as the first induction ceremony following the faculty’s compliance with the directive of the National Universities Commission, which extended the duration of the pharmacy programme from five to six years. With the implementation of the revised curriculum, the graduates will now bear the professional title of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Kayode O. Adebowale, Prof. Omobowale congratulated the inductees and charged them to uphold the values of excellence and integrity for which the University is known.
Delivering the induction lecture, Olufunsho Awodele, FPCPharm, FAMedS, urged the new pharmacists to embrace the challenges of the next phase of their professional careers with diligence and ethical responsibility. He reminded them that the oath they had taken demands adherence to the highest professional standards, warning that any form of misconduct would attract appropriate sanctions.
Awodele emphasised that the objective of pharmacy training goes beyond earning a professional title, noting that pharmacists play a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and contributing to national economic growth.
“The graduates’ input will go beyond the profession, strengthen the healthcare system, and promote economic growth across Nigeria,” he stated.
Also present at the ceremony were Titilayo O. Fakeye, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed; and other distinguished guests.
Meanwhile, the 2024/2025 graduating set recorded a remarkable academic achievement, with 46 of the 88 graduates earning academic distinction, a development described as a significant accomplishment for the Faculty.
The induction ceremony reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to producing highly skilled pharmacy professionals equipped to advance healthcare delivery and national development.
