RUSSIA 2018: Musa’s Brace Secures Eagles First Win Against Iceland

Nigeria produced a scintillating second half performance as influential winger Ahmed Musa score two second half goals to secure for the eagles a decisive win against a fierce opponent Iceland in a crucial group D match. The win puts the eagles in a vantage position to qualify in a group which comprises of Argentina and Croatia.
After a lackluster first half performance in which the eagles failed to register any shot on target, the super eagles sprang up to life, recording their first shot on target for the match in the opening second of the second half. It was a foreshadowing of what to come as the Eagles bossed the game from then on.


It took only minutes later for eagles to register their first goal of the tournament. On the 49th minute, from a counter move, Victor Moses played in a delightful ball towards Musa who controlled the ball with a deft touch before riffling in an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net, thus sending the Nigerian fans into a wild jubilation.
The eagles looked unstoppable from then on as they control the proceeding. In the 75th minute l a long ball from Tyrone Ebuehi located Musa who displaced the Iceland defender to run clear on gaol. He had much to do as he dribbled past the on-rushing goalkeeper and two defenders before striking the ball into the net.
However, on the 80th a moment of lack of concentration ensued from the Nigerian defenders as Tyrone Ebuehi, made a needless tackle at the byline to bring down Finnbogasson inside the box. It took the referee an appeal to the VAR before awarding the penalty. Sigurdsson could only step up to send the ball agonizingly over the ball to the delight of Nigerian supporters.
The Super Eagles went on to secure a 2:0 win, an important victory that leaves them second on the table with three points.
The Eagles next match is on Tuesday against 2014 finalist Argentina, a match that promises to be a cracker a potential determinant of who qualifies from the group. What promises to be a mouth watering encounter was infact a sold out match even before the commencement of the tournament.
Both countries have history meeting each other at the world football showpiece. The Argentinean side has met the super eagles thrice at the 2002, 2010, and 2014 world cup with the albiceleste side winning on all occasion.
