Residents and business owners in some of Ibadan’s most prominent neighborhoods are set to experience scheduled power disruptions this week. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) officially announced today, January 6, that a series of three-hour daily outages will be implemented from Monday through Friday, January 9, 2026.
The “on-field” cause of the blackout is not a system failure but a strategic asset relocation project. IBEDC is currently moving heavy electrical infrastructure and poles to accommodate the ongoing massive road construction along the Foodco Road and Idi Isin axis. This infrastructure upgrade is part of the state’s 2026 “Budget of Economic Expansion” to improve urban connectivity.
Residential & Institutional: Alalubosa GRA, Lead City, Museum, FRIN, Forestry College, Lead British, and Sunrise.
Security & Business: Oyo State Police Headquarters, ODUA, AMI Complex, Polo Clubs, and the Baale Akintayo community.
IBEDC has confirmed that feeders will be switched off for approximately three hours each day to allow engineering teams to safely reposition the lines. While the inconvenience is immediate, the relocation is a necessary step to prevent future long-term outages that could be caused by road expansion damage to existing power lines
