The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers accused of attacking a tricycle driver and passengers around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.
Police said the suspects were apprehended following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer at Oluyole Divisional Headquarters at about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
According to the command, the information indicated that armed men were attacking members of the public and dispossessing them of their belongings in the area.
A patrol team deployed to the scene reportedly confronted the suspects and arrested Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
The command said officers recovered a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.
The items have been retained as exhibits for further investigation.
Police said the suspects confessed during preliminary questioning to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers. The command also alleged that they injured other people during their operations.
The three suspects remain in custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against crime.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and criminal activities promptly, stressing that timely and credible information would help officers prevent crime and improve public safety.
