The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of three individuals in Ibadan over the unlawful possession and alleged sale of suspected human parts, in a development that underscores ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and protect public safety.
According to the Command, the arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Adekile area of Agugu, a strategy regularly deployed to detect and prevent crime across the state.
Police sources revealed that a patrol team intercepted an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle during the operation. A search conducted on the pillion rider led to the discovery of a package containing flesh suspected to be human parts, believed to be intestines.
The pillion rider, identified as Oyategbe Joseph, was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to obtaining the suspected human parts from an unidentified individual in the Oritaperin area of Ibadan.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects — Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo, 46, and Pastor Ayodele Taiwo, 55 — who were alleged to have purchased the items from Oyategbe Joseph. Both individuals were subsequently tracked, arrested, and brought in for questioning, where they reportedly admitted to buying the suspected human parts.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a detailed and discreet investigation. Authorities confirmed that all three suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public order, assuring residents that decisive action will continue to be taken against criminal elements.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, particularly those related to the possession or sale of human parts, to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.
The Command emphasized that community cooperation remains vital in sustaining peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
