The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area have been rescued.
In a statement issued to the public, the Command clarified that the victims are still in captivity, stressing that security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure their safe rescue and apprehend those behind the abduction.
The police urged residents and social media users to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic and tension across the state.
According to the Command, the circulation of false reports about the rescue operation could distract security personnel and divert critical resources needed for the ongoing operation.
“The abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” the statement said.
The police also appealed to members of the public to verify information before sharing it, warning that misinformation could worsen the already delicate security situation.
The Command assured residents that verified updates would be communicated through official channels as developments unfold, advising anyone seeking clarification to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room.
