The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected robbers following what it described as a successful intelligence-led operation along the Elebu–Oja axis, off Alao-Akala Expressway, Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Alayande Olayinka, said the operation was launched after the command received credible intelligence from vigilante groups about the activities of hoodlums allegedly robbing unsuspecting members of the public in the area.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Unit were immediately deployed on a targeted surveillance patrol, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Elijah Teejay, 21, and Ottu Emmanuel, 33.
A search conducted on the suspects reportedly resulted in the recovery of two toy pistols and suspected illicit drugs, which were secured as exhibits.
Police authorities disclosed that during preliminary interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in multiple robbery incidents along the Elebu–Oja corridor and other locations within and outside Oyo State. The suspects were said to have operated across state lines, dispossessing victims of their valuables and instilling fear in affected communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. He commended residents for providing timely information that aided the arrests and also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continued support and emphasis on intelligence-driven policing nationwide.
The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to thrive in the state.
