The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects over the alleged theft of diesel valued at ₦12 million at the Kopek Construction Company site in Ibadan.
The suspects, Yusuf Mutiyat (43) and Ogunniyan Rasheed (64), were intercepted by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit while allegedly siphoning liquid suspected to be diesel from a mixer truck at the construction site.
Police sources disclosed that the arrest followed credible intelligence and the timely cooperation of members of the public, which enabled operatives to act swiftly and prevent further losses.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of items suspected to have been stolen or linked to criminal activity, including 24 barrels of liquid suspected to be diesel, each with a capacity of 240 litres, amounting to approximately 10,000 litres. The recovered diesel is estimated to be worth ₦12,000,000.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, PSC+, commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved in the operation. He also acknowledged the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, describing his vision and guidance as critical to the Command’s continued operational successes.
The Police Command further appreciated members of the public for their vigilance and timely intelligence, noting that their cooperation played a key role in the swift interception of the suspects and recovery of the stolen property.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of the theft and to identify other possible accomplices.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing actionable information to support efforts against criminal activities.
