Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has expressed delight over the remarkable transformation taking place within the state-owned transport system, Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS), as his administration unveiled 30 new intercity buses, a state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station, and the newly completed Engr. Seyi Makinde Bus Terminal.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the Pacesetter headquarters in Ibadan, marked what the governor described as a “major leap” in Oyo State’s efforts to modernize its public transportation network, promote environmental sustainability, and ensure affordable mobility for residents.
Governor Makinde, in his address, commended the management of Pacesetter Transport Services, led by Chairman and Sole Administrator, Dr. Dikko Salami, for their forward-thinking approach in driving reforms within the transport sector.
“These 30 new buses and the CNG station are not just vehicles or facilities; they represent a cleaner, smarter, and more reliable future for Oyo State,” Makinde said. “We are literally setting the pace in public transport and, figuratively, demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can drive our economy forward.”
The newly acquired buses, produced in partnership with Leyland Nigeria, are designed to enhance intercity, intra-city, and interstate travel across the state. Complementing the fleet is the CNG fueling station, developed in collaboration with Atlas Core Nigeria Ltd, which will serve as a sustainable energy source for the buses.
According to the governor, the introduction of CNG-powered buses aligns with his administration’s twin goals of reducing carbon emissions and lowering transportation costs for residents. “This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and cost reduction for both operators and commuters,” he added.
The newly inaugurated CNG station is the first of its kind for the Oyo State government-owned transport company. It is expected to provide affordable, eco-friendly fuel options that will cut operational expenses and further encourage the adoption of clean energy alternatives within the state’s transportation sector.
In addition to the buses and CNG station, the governor also commissioned the Engr. Seyi Makinde Bus Terminal, a modern facility strategically located within Pacesetter’s headquarters. The terminal boasts state-of-the-art amenities such as VVIP and VIP lounges, spacious waiting areas, electronic ticketing booths, and other features designed to ensure commuter comfort and convenience.
Governor Makinde described the terminal as a testament to his administration’s dedication to world-class service delivery and passenger-friendly infrastructure. He also praised Dr. Dikko Salami for his visionary leadership and commitment to excellence.
“The efforts of the management team, particularly under Chairman Dikko Salami, are commendable,” Makinde stated. “They have not only enhanced our public transport infrastructure but have also created a legacy that will benefit future generations.”
In his response, Dr. Dikko Salami expressed deep appreciation to the governor for his unwavering support and visionary leadership, emphasizing that the recent transformation of Pacesetter Transport Services was made possible through Governor Makinde’s commitment to innovation and good governance.
“We are grateful to His Excellency for believing in the potential of Pacesetter Transport Services and for providing the resources and political will to make these projects a reality,” Dr. Salami said.
