The Oyo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to participate fully and contest the 2027 general elections, dismissing ongoing disputes within the party as temporary internal challenges.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Michael Ogunsina, made this known on Saturday during a political programme on radio, where he described the party’s current situation as an internal wrangling that would soon be resolved.
Ogunsina expressed optimism that the crisis rocking the party would be settled within the next three weeks, noting that all outstanding litigations are expected to be concluded by March in line with directives of the Supreme Court.
“We are very close to the end of this imbroglio because we will be done with the court cases within the next two to three weeks,” he said.
Despite the internal disputes, Ogunsina maintained that the PDP remains the most credible and leading opposition party in Nigeria.
“There is nothing wrong with PDP as a party. We only have a blown-up internal wrangling which does not affect the core structure of our party,” he stated.
He further affirmed that the party would not only overcome the present turbulence but would emerge stronger, stressing that the PDP is positioning itself to contest and win the 2027 general elections scheduled for February 20 and March 6.
Addressing the issue of factional leadership at both the national and state levels, Ogunsina insisted that the Turaki-led executive remains the only recognised leadership structure of the party. He added that there is no dispute regarding Seyi Makinde as the leader of the PDP in Oyo State, while Dayo Ogungbenro remains the acknowledged executive head of the party in the state.
The publicity secretary also dismissed speculations that Governor Makinde plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to him, there is no evidence to suggest that a recent meeting between Makinde and Ibrahim Babangida in Minna was politically motivated.
Ogunsina described the defection rumours as unfounded, urging party members and supporters to remain focused as the PDP prepares for reconciliation and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 polls
