The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect over allegations of cyberbullying, defamation of character, and threat to life involving popular Fuji musician, Adebisi Taye Akande.
In a statement made available to journalists, the Command said the case originated from a formal petition submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, prompting an investigation into the allegations.
According to the police, the petition accused one Afunso Ridwan Abiola, popularly known as Rolex Dee, of engaging in sustained acts of cyberbullying and defamatory attacks against the musician across multiple social media platforms.
The complainant further alleged that the suspect, who reportedly received financial assistance of about ₦800,000 from him to support his music career, later made disparaging statements capable of damaging his reputation.
Police authorities also noted that the suspect allegedly made further defamatory remarks during a public programme known as Agbaletu, which gained wide circulation online and intensified the impact of the claims.
Following what the Command described as “diligent investigation and technical intelligence,” operatives tracked and apprehended the suspect in Lagos State. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The Command, however, dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms alleging unlawful detention of the suspect by its Anti-Cultism Unit, describing such claims as false and misleading.
It clarified that the suspect is being held lawfully and that all actions taken so far are in line with established legal procedures and protocols.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to due process, fairness, and the protection of the rights of all parties involved, while urging the public to disregard unverified reports.
Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, assured residents that the Command remains committed to justice and professionalism, urging citizens to remain law-abiding as the case progresses.
