The Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has revealed plan by his administration to establish anti corruption commission in the state.
He opined that the commission will sees to the promotion of transparency and accountability in both public and private sectors in the state.
Governor Makinde made the disclosure during the inauguration of the Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday.
He stated that the first two of the executive bills he would be sending to the House of Assembly for speedy consideration and passage is the Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency Bill, 2019 and the Oyo State Financial Crime Commission Bill, 2019.
The governor noted that when the financial commission bill passed into law and the commission is established, it will ensure transparency and accountability in both the public and private sectors.
Makinde added that the commission would be empowered to beam its searchlight on any individual or body with the help of police to reduce economic and financial crimes to the barest minimum in the state.
Governor Makinde who has decided to lead by example, declared his readiness to surrender himself by waiving his immunity to appear before the commission if he is find wanting of any offence of financial mismanagement.
While elaborating on the Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency Bill, 2019, Seyi Makinde emphasized that the agency bill is initiated to promote, facilitate, and coordinate investment in the state through public, private partnership initiative, privatization and commercialization of the state’s own assets and transform the economy of the state through strategic asset management.
Governor Makinde, while assuring the newly sworn in lawmakers his readiness to maintain the existing cordial relationship between the executive and legislature, promised to work with the state Assembly to guarantee financial autonomy to the local government councils in the state.
His words, “The task before all of us now is to make Oyo State better and I look forward to us working together. I want us to deemphasize party affiliations. I want this ninth Assembly to be the best ever in the history of Oyo State. I know you can do it, because some of the qualities that you need to make that happen, you all have them: experience, youthful energy, and commitment. So, we won’t have any excuse not to deliver.”
