Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has restored power to the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, after sixteen days of disconnection for owing IBEDC N495M.
IBEDC disconnected the health facility on March 19, over accumulated bill indebtedness, this , being the third time in less than two months.
However, when our correspondent visited the hospital on Friday morning, it was observed that power had been fully restored.
Ibadancity Announcer gathered that electricity was restored around 6.25 pm on Thursday.
There was power supply in departments like Pharmacology,Dietetic, Nursing,Family Medicine, Engineering, Emergency, etc
Meanwhile, following the frequent  outages in the University College Hospital (UCH), the members of staff of the institution had resolved to work between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm daily which took effect on Tuesday, April 2 .
A source within the health facility who preferred to remain anonymous said, “doctors and nurses had to purchase rechargeable lamps, some even use solar lamps to attend to patients during the power outage”.
The source stated that part of the money was paid to IBEDC before electricity was restored. “It became a total embarrassing situation for a health facility as popular as UCH to be disconnected from electricity due to debt”.
Our correspondent also observed that the hospital was scanty as some of the wards had just started operating due to the fact that so many patients were discharged as they couldn’t be attended to due to power outage.
The source confirmed that only a few in critical condition were admitted during the power outage while surgeries and tests were mostly carried out outside the hospital.
