Students Protest: Oyo school Principals apologise to Gov. Ajimobi

Oyo State branch of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) has apologised to the state government over the June 6 violent protest in Ibadan by secondary schools students over the state government Public Private Partnership Education Initiative.

The apology letter which was tendered on behalf of principals, teachers and students of all secondary schools in Oyo state was signed by Ranti Obafunmiso and Mathew Ogunkunle, the state Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

The state (ANCOPSS) Chairman Mr Ranti Obafunmiso said that the association dissociated its members from any group or association that might have instigated the students to embark on the violent demonstration.

“ANCOPPS wishes to tender its unreserved apology to Oyo State Government on behalf of all principals, teachers and students of all public secondary schools in the state on the violent incident that happened on June 6.

“The incident threatened the peace and security of the state and endangered the lives of the students, who participated in the breach of peace and affront on constituted authority,’’ he said.

He stated in strong term that the association condemned the act and reiterated their stance as ambassadors and advocate of moral uprightness and good conduct.

He pledged the association full support and cooperation to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in Oyo state, urging him to accept its apology.

Meanwhile, the strike called by the Nigerian Labour Congress is still in force and schools in Oyo state have remained shut  over non-payment of state workers accumulated salaries which has paralysed socio-economic activities in the state and despite the reopening order given by the state government
