Saraki Promises To Tackle Poverty As He Declares For Presidency

The Senate President Bukola Saraki has officially registered his intention to contest for the presidency in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

The embattled senate president made the declaration in Abuja during an interaction with the Youths and young aspirants which was held at the Sheraton hotel, Abuja

He joins the former Kano state Governor Sen Rabiu Kwankwanso and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Ahmed Makarfi and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal in jostling for the PDP party ticket.

Speaking at the event, Saraki said “I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me run for President. Accordingly I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of the president of the Federal republic of Nigeria in the coming general election in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”

In the address, Senator Saraki decried the spate of hunger and poverty in the land. The lack of the basic living standard, dilapidating education facilities and unemployment, saying “the people are crying for succor”.

While lamenting the fact the youths have been shot out of the governance and lack opportunities to contribute to the growth of the country, he commended the young aspirants for coming out to contest for elective positions.

He promised to tackle the spate of insecurity in the country, while providing enabling environment for investors so as to tackle unemployment and eradicate poverty in the country.

Senator Saraki recently decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC and has prior to this announcement met with various stakeholders including the Chairmen of some political parties and other National leaders including the former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
