As the 2019 elections draws closer, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo state Mr Mutiu Agboke has further assured the electorate in the state of a smooth, free and fair conduct of the elections, he nevertheless lamented the high number stressing that that INEC will do all within its powers to conduct credible polls.
He stated this while briefing news men about the latest development concerning the readiness and preparations of the electoral body for the smooth conduct of the elections. According to him, malpractices of any form are been curtailed and guard against especially as regards the card readers to be used for the elections. He noted the card readers have been configured to work only for the two days of the presidential and national assembly election on February 16 and the governorship and state house of assembly election on 2nd of March. Therefore, the card cannot be preloaded and manipulated any form.
Allaying fears in some quarters about the sale of unclaimed card readers to politicians, the Oyo state REC emphasized that the electoral umpire will not succumb to any form of pressure by politicians to sell unclaimed voters card. He however lamented the high number of unclaimed voters cards in the state stating that a total of 846,417 PVCs have not been claimed by their rightful owners. He appealed to those concerned to avail themselves of the limited time to collect voters card in order to participate at the polls.
On the preparations of the electoral body for the polls, Mr Mutiu Agboke noted that 90% of all non sensitive material needed for the polls have been received in the state. Meanwhile the state will take delivery of all sensitive materials for the election next week.
