Implement South West Security Summit Resolutions To End Incessant Kidnappings – Oyo Assembly

The House of Assembly has called for the implementation of the resolutions of the security summit organized by the South West governors recently in Ibadan to address prevailing insecurity in the region.
The House, during its Yoruba plenary on Wednesday, July 9th, 2019, called on the state government to prevail on the security agencies to beef up security, particularly in Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and Oyo geo-political zones of the state to curb the activities of kidnappers and ritualists.
This was following a motion jointly presented by Hon. Mustapha Olawale, representing Kajola state constituency, Hon. Peter Ojedokun, representing Ibarapa North/Central state constituency and Hon. Isiaka Tunde from Oyo East/West state on “the need to bring an end to cases of kidnapping and ritual now rampant in Okeogun, Ibarapa and Oyo zones of the state.”
The Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, while passing the resolutions, equally called on the heads of various security agencies in Oyo State to work as a synergy in ensuring that perpetrators of kidnapping and ritual killings are not only apprehended but also prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other criminally minded individuals.
Hon. Ogundoyin noted that it was unfortunate that many residents of Oyo State and indeed Nigerians are worried because of the spate of kidnapping and killings in the country, thereby charged the security agents to be more proactive in tackling the menace.
While calling for the full implementation of the Oyo State Anti-kidnapping law of 2016, the House Minority Leader, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Adebisi Yusuf, representing Ibadan South West 1, Hon. Adedibu Akeem, representing Iwajowa, Hon. Adebayo Babajide, representing Ibadan North 2 and Hon. Isiaka Kazeem, representing Oyo East/Oyo West, appealed to all sociocultural groups in the state to map out ways of tackling the issues of insecurity in Oyo State.
They decried the porous nature of the nations borders, and charged government to tighten security in all the borders to reduce the influx of foreigners into the country.
They called for the motivation and fortify security operatives with up-to-date ammunitions to be able to confront perpetrators of these evil acts of killing, kidnapping and ritual.
The sitting equally recommended use of various vigilance groups in local government across Oyo state to complement the effort of security agencies.
