There appears to be no end in sight to the crisis rocking the Oyo state All Progressive Congress APC as the rival faction to Governor Ajimobi’s group; the Unity Forum has threatened to pull out of the party. This development follows the inauguration of the factional chairman of the party Chief Akin Oke as the recognized chairman of the state party after being endorsed by the National Working Committee.
Chief Akin Oke, who emerged as the chairman of the party in the state parallel congress held by the Ajimobi faction was yesterday sworn in alongside some other state chairmen at the party secretariat in Abuja.
However, the members of the Unity Forum in their reaction dissociated themselves from the development. They also expressed the fact that they would not be part of any reconciliation attempt and arrangement with the governor. In a comminuque issued at the end of their meeting held on Tuesday, and read by the spokesman for the forum, Hon Wasiu Olatunbosun, the Unity Forum expressed their opinion thus “The effort is ridiculous, and laughable. Governor Ajimobi is the problem of the APC in Oyo state. How can a problem be the solution? An issue in the crisis is the anti democratic conduct of the Governor in the party. Examples include his decision not to follow the constitution of the party in the election of party candidates for the local government election; his unilateral handpicking of the party candidate in the last Ibarapa East House of Assembly bye election, which culminated in the disgraceful loss of the party and an attempt to impose members of his minority SENACO as executives of the party at the ward, local and state levels.
It is therefore ridiculous and laughable, that such a character will expect that serious minded persons and groups like the Unity Forum will take his kangaroo reconciliation with even a pinch of seriousness. Ajimobi is never known for keeping any promise. The entire political landscape of Oyo State and Ajimobi’s political career are littered with carcasses of victims of his deceit. His offer of reconciliation is a poisoned chalice that anyone will accept at his own peril.
We, however, wish t put it on record that in his typical shenanigan, he will parade some men of shady character before his kangaroo reconciliation panel and call them members of the Unity Forum. Whoever buys that fraud does that at his own risk.”
In a face book post earlier in the day, Hon Wasiu Olatunbosun had indicated that the Unity Forum was going to pull out of the party. In the post, Hon Wasiu Olatunbosun wrote “Breaking: Unity Forum leaves OYO APC… destination to be to be announced in few days.
The unity forum popularly known as the LAMISTs lead by the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, some members of the House of Representatives and some party big-wigs has filed a suit in court challenging the position of the National Working Committee and the recognitions of Oke as chairman.
