All Our Businesses Have Collapsed

The residents of Ariku community in Lagelu local government has decried the unsympathetic attitude of the Oyo State Government, Lagelu Local Government and all elected Representatives to the total blackout being experienced by the community for the past four years, due to faulty transformers which has not been replaced by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

The residents who made this known to IbadanCity ANNOUNCER on Monday after several appeals made to state officials, Politicians and Private individuals within the state and local governments on the issue of their faulty electricity transformer which has drastically affected every facet of their livelihood especially their businesses.

A prominent resident of the Ariku Community, Mr. Olayemi Olafemi, narrated their predicament to IbadanCity ANNOUNCER “We have been abandoned by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Government at all levels including our elected representatives, electricity has not been supplied to the Ariku Community for the past four years, despite the fact that our community is directly opposite the Lagelu local government council, we have not enjoyed the dividends from all mentioned”

He added that, the past government of All Progressive party (APC) left them in darkness and whenever they seek the help of the incumbent local government chairman, appointed by the new administration of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his response has always been that he is just a Caretaker Chairman with limitations and he has nothing much to offer.

Another resident, Elder Adebisi, popularly known as Baba transformer claimed that he earned the nickname as a result of his daily quest to see that the community acquires a new transformer to provide electricity for the community but all to no avail.

He also maintained that he and other residents of the community have approached the honorable member representing the Lagelu local government in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Akintunde Olajide (PDP), who knew about the predicament of the Ariku community before he was elected last year but all efforts from him have been fruitless. The honorable told us that provision of Transformer is the responsibility of Federal Government.

However, IbadanCity Announcer sent messages to the local government chairman, Hon. Kelani Abdulahi to get the response of the council to the request of the Ariku Community under his local government but we did not receive any response from him as we file this reports.
