The Elections petition Tribunal has declared the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidate Sen. Ademola Adeleke has the duly elected Governor of Osun state.
The tribunal made up of a three man panel led by Justice Ibrahim Sirajo gave its judgment today , Friday, in Abuja, stating that the supplementary election held on the 23rd Sept. 2018 was illegal therefore the votes scored thereof was illegal
The tribunal therefore deducted the votes scored by both parties in the rerun election from the total number of votes making the PDP flag bearer the winner of the election.
In the judgment read by Justice Peter Obiora, the rerun election was deemed illegal because the state returning officer has no power to cancel the election in the seven polling units in the four local governments that the rerun election was held.
The tribunal had earlier dismissed the preliminary objection which was filed by the APC and INEC challenging Adeleke’s petition has lacking merit.
The tribunal has therefore order INEC to withdraw the certificate given to Oyetola and issue the certificate of return to Adeleke as the duly elected Governor of Osun state.
Meanwhile the streets of Oshogbo and Ede has been agog has people were seen jubilating on the street. Some person in their reaction lauded the judgment of the tribunal as a true reflection of the wishes of the people.
The Presidential candidate of the PDP at the just concluded General election, Atiku Abubakar has lauded the ruling as a welcome development. He congratulated Sen. Ademola Adeleke while commending the judiciary as the last hope of the masses. According to him, “Truly, the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man and the defender of our democracy.
