How Super Eagles Tamed The Lions Of Cameroon

Against all odds after the humiliation by the Madagascar, The Nigeria Super Eagles tamed The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 stage of the on going AFCON2019 competition in a suspense riddled match at the Alexandria stadium in Egypt.


Nigeria lineup against the defending champion included Akpeyi; Awaziem, Omeruo, Ekong, Aina; Etebo, Ndidi; Simon, Iwobi, Musa; Ighalo while the Cameroon fielded Onana; Fai, Ngadeu-Ngadjui, Banana, Oyongo; Kunde Bassogog, Mandjeck, N’Jie; Choupo-Moting; Bahoken,
The super eagles played a 4-2-3-1 formation with Akpeyi as the goalie while Awaziem, Chelsea’s loanee, Omeruo, Ekong and Aina played the 4 man defense line. Leicester City’s Ndidi and Etebo held the defensive midfield while Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa and Simon were on the attacking side of the midfield with Odion Ighalo as the lone striker for the Eagles.
The indomitable ions Manager, Seedorf also fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation using Oyongo Ngadeu-Ngadjui Banana and Fai as his back four. Ajax’s Onana was his goalie while Kunde and Mandjeck were his defensive midfielders with N’jie, Bassogog and PSG’s Choupo-Moting attacking at the midfield and Bahoken the lone striker.
The match started with the Eagles taking an early lead when Odion Ighalo found the back of the net with a deflected goal in the 19th minute of the match. However, the indomitable lions showed the Eagles’ the verity of their name in the late minute of the first half when Stephanie Bahoken equalized with a tap in that found the back of the net in the 41st minute of the game. The lions then went ahead to dominate the Eagles two minutes after as Clinton Njie got a through pass beating Super Eagles’ left back, Aina to find the back of the net to end the first half of the match 2-1 advantage to the defending Champion.
The second half of the game became more interesting when Odion Ighalo of the Super Eagles found the net again in the 63rd minute of the game with an assist from Arsenal’s Iwobi. The Eagles soared over the lions just three minutes later when Iwobi scored a superb winning goal for the Eagles to tame the Indomitable Lions.
Super Eagles will meet the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the quarter final after they defeated the Host by a lone goal.
