How Adebo Ogundoyin Becomes Oyo State Speaker

Thirty-two year-old Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has emerged speaker of the ninth Oyo State House of Assembly. 

Hon. Ogundoyin, who is a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ibarapa East state constituency was nominated by Hon. Babajide Adebayo, who is representing Ibadan North constituency 2, while Hon. Adeola Bamidele, a member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju state constituency seconded the nomination.

Hon. Ogundoyin, a graduate of Babcock University, Ogun State emerged unopposed with unanimous voice vote of all the 31 Assembly members.

The new Speaker, in his acceptance speech, promised to run an opened door policy by welcoming contributions, support and cooperation of all members with the aim of making laws for good governance.

Ogundoyin pledged that the House will work in tandem with the executive arm of government in order to facilitate speedy actualization of the vision and mission of the present administration. He implored all members irrespective of party affiliation to key into the vision of refreshing Oyo State.

According to the Speaker, ‘if this vision is to be achieved, then members of this house must form an unbreakable synergy with both the executive and the judiciary in order to bring our dreams for Oyo State to quick fruition.”

“We shall concentrate on the enactment of laws and amendment of the existing laws that will promote development of our dear state. The 9th Assembly will concentrate on legislation that will be in tandem with the manifesto of our party as promised during our campaign.”

In the same vein, the lawmaker representing Ona-Ara state constituency, Hon. Muhammed Akeem Fadeyi also emerged the Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo representing Ogbomoso South state constituency emerged Majority Leader.

The inauguration which is being witness by the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, his Deputy, Engr. Remi Olaniyan and other government officials, royal and spiritual fathers, also witnessed Hon. Asimiyu Alarape from Atiba state constituency as Minority Leader, Hon. Akeem Adebibu from Iwajowa state constituency as Chief Whip, Hon. Olasunkami Babalola from Egbeda state constituency as Deputy Majority and Hon. Yusuf Adebisi from Ibadan South West 1 as Deputy Chief Whip.

The Oyo State governor, Engnr Seyi Makinde has promised to maintain existing cordial relationship with the legislative arm of government to move the state forward.

The governor stated this while addressing the newly sworn in members of House at the inauguration held at the Hallow Chamber, House of Assembly complex, Secretariat, Ibadan. Makinde expressed that his administration will respect the autonomy of the legislature and upholds the doctrine of separation of power.

The governor solicited the support of the members by working on legislations that will accelerate the development of the state to realize his dreams and mission on education, agriculture, social inclusion and infrastructure development. Governor Seyi Makinde urged them to shun partisanship and worked together in harmony for the progress of the people and the state in general
