The Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Prof Yemi Osinbajo has ordered the immediate termination of Appointment of the Director General of the nation’s State Security Services, Lawal Daura.
The special adviser to the Acting president on media, Mr Laolu Akande, revealed in a tweet that “the acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, State Security Service, DSS, Mr Lawal Musa Daura with immediate effect. Mr Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice”
This development is coming on the heels of the invasion of the national Assembly by members of the State Security Service DSS on Tuesday, who prevented legislators and National Assembly workers from gaining entrance into the National Assembly Complex, a development which has created a national and international condemnation and blowback to the Federal Government.
The National Assembly leadership had scheduled a meeting for 12 noon on Tuesday in a bid to discuss some national issues top of which is the Independent national Electoral Commission’s Budget for upcoming 2019 general election. It will be recalled that the National Assembly had adjourned sitting till the 25th of September after going on recess on the 24th of July.
The meeting has since been rescheduled after the incidence.
In a swift reaction to the development the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo summoned the Director General of the DSS and the Inspector General of Police to a meeting in a bid to ascertain the situation. He has in reaction sacked the Director General.
The development has raised concerns over the effort t of the All Progressives Congress lawmakers to impeach the Senate President Bukola Saraki. This is coming after the Senate President announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party. According to some reports, the APC lawmakers had perfected plan to carry out the impeachment process. The DSS Director General, Daura is said to be part of the plans.
