2019: Intrigues As Senator Dino Melaye Courts PDP

As APC Hon. Jagaba Defects To PDP

The political landscape of the country was set alight on Wednesday as the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye indicated interest in joining the People Democratic Party PDP even as Hon Adams Jagaba from Kaduna formally defect to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP from the ruling All Progressive Party.

Sen Dino Melaye who is attending plenary for the first time, after being hospitalized made the indication during a point of order in which he thanked the members of the Senate especially PDP members for standing by him during his travails while in the hospital as well as with the security agencies. He further requested the Senate President, Sen Bukola Saraki to mandate the house’ sergeant at arms to create a seat for him at the Opposition wing, pending the formalization of his defection. He thereafter proceeded to take his seat beside the former Senate President David Mark to a wild applause and jubilation from the opposition PDP members.
The formalization of Sen Dino Melaye’s defection will require him to transmit a letter of intent to the Senate president who would read the written letter to members of the senate thus signifying his official defection.
In a similar vein, a member of the All Progressive Congress APC representing Kacha/Kagarko constituency in Kaduna state, Hon Adams Jagaba has formally defected to the People’s Democratic Party PDP. Hon Jagaba who is also chairman of committee on interiors made this known on the floor of the House during plenary and was wildly welcomed by the Peoples Democratic Party members in the house.
With the 2019 elections in the horizon, this development is set to unsettle the All Progressives Congress, following the rancorous party congresses and the threat by the nPDP members to pull out of the party.
